PERFORMANCE EXHAUST PACKAGES:

Off the showroom floor, the Suzuki DR-Z400S and DR-Z400SM are tuned more for fuel mileage and emissions, rather than performance. This makes the bike feel a little bit "anemic", but luckily there are a few things you can do to improve the bikes overall performance.

To maximize performance and improve ride-ablity of your DR-Z400S or DR-Z400SM, we recommend that you...
  • replace the entire exhaust system (muffler AND header) with a lightweight free-flowing exhaust
  • re-jet the carburetor to adjust the bikes fueling
  • replace the stock air filter with a better flowing air filter
  • do 3x3 airbox mod to the bikes stock airbox

Doing these simple things will greatly improve the bikes overall performance, making it much more fun to ride, it'll sound a lot better, and you'll drop a little bit of weight at the same time (the stock exhaust isheavy).

We've put together a few Performance Exhaust Packages that will give you everything you need to replace the bikes exhaust system, re-jet the carburetor, and replace the stock air filter. All of the packages below will provide nearly identical performance gains, but each has different pros and cons. Read the descriptions below for more details...

    DRZ400-Yoshimura-RS2-Exhaust

OPTION 1: Yoshimura RS-2 Performance Exhaust Package (shown above)
This is our personal favorite exhaust system for the DRZ400's. We currently have this exact exhaust system on our Black DR-Z400SM Project Bike, our White DR-Z400SM Project Bike and also our Yellow DR-Z400SM Project Bike. The RS-2 package provides excellent performance gains, beautiful fit and finish, and a great overall sound. From a sound level standpoint, it is slightly louder than the FMF Q4 exhaust, but slightly quieter than the FMF PowerCore4 exhaust. The RS-2 Muffler is available in either Carbon Fiber or Aluminum and comes fitted with a removable USFS approved spark arrestor. The Yoshimura header pipe includes a laser-etched heat shield.

We've created a few package deals (see below) that allow you to bundle the exhaust together with a jet kit, air filter, etc.

    AIR FILTERS:

The performance exhaust packages outlined above will take care of the exhaust side of the equation, but while you're at it, most riders will also replace their bikes stock air filter with something that flows air better.

In our performance exhaust packages, we allow you to add an air filter to the package. You have two options, either a K&N Air Filter or a No Toil Foam Air Filter. We recommend the K&N Filter if you are doing mostly street riding like we do with our DR-Z400SM project bikes. If you are riding off-road or in very dusty conditions, we like the No Toil Air Filters. Both of our DRZ project bikes have K&N Filters installed (shown in photo above).
