WR250R-Pro-Taper-Contour-Handlebars

HANDLEBARS:

One of the first things many riders change on their new WR250R or WR250X is the handlebars. The stock handlebars are 7/8" in size and made out of steel. Most people will swap those out for a high quality aluminum handlebar, which is lighter and more durable for off-road riding.

Handlebar Sizing: The stock WR25R/X has 7/8" size handlebars. If you want to stick with 7/8" handlebars, all you'll need to do is pick out a new aluminum handlebar in that same 7/8" size and it will bolt right on. If you want to upgrade to oversize 1 1/8" handlebars, you'll need adapters or new handlebar clamps (see info below) to mount the larger 1 1/8" size handlebars. Please note that oversize handlebars are only "oversize" on the center part of the bar where it bolts up to the bike... they taper back down to 7/8" where the controls mount, that way all your stock controls will go right back on. Additionally, 7/8" handlebars will have a cross brace, whereas 1 1/8" bars typically will not.

Handlebar Bends: Manufacturers like Pro Taper and Renthal offer their handlebars in a variety of bends so you can customize the fit and feel of your new bars. Which bend you choose is a personal preference thing. For the Yamaha WR250R, we like Pro Taper handlebars in the "Woods High", "Henry/Reed" and "Windham RM Mid" bends. On our personal WR250R Project Bike we use the Pro Taper Contour handlebar in the "Woods High" bend, but the "Henry/Reed" bend seems to also be popular with our customers.

OUR RECOMMENDATIONS:

If you want to stick with 7/8" handlebars, all you'll need is new handlebars like the Renthal 7/8" or Pro Taper SE...

  • Renthal 7/8" handlebars

  • Pro Taper SE 7/8" handlebars

If you want oversize 1 1/8" handlebars, you'll need 1 1/8" handlebars like the Pro Taper Contour, Pro Taper Evo, or Renthal Fatbar. Additionally, you will need adapters or new handlebar clamps to convert your bikes lower bar mount to the larger size. Pro Taper offers their Universal Solid Mount, which is an adapter that will convert your stock lower bar mount to the 1 1/8" size. Another option, which is the one we use on our project bikes, is to use Zeta's RX2 Clamp Kit, which replaces the entire stock handlebar mount with a 1 1/8" mount. It also raises your handlebars 10-15mm. Links to these products...

  • Renthal Fatbar 1 1/8" handlebars

  • Pro Taper Contour 1 1/8" handlebars

  • Pro Taper Evo 1 1/8" handlebars

  • Pro Taper Universal Solid Mounts

  • WR250R Zeta RX2 Clamp Kit
