The stock Bridgestone tires on the 2008+ Yamaha WR250R are OK for basic use, but there are definitely much better options out there for serious dual sport riding. Here is our WR250R Tire Guide....
90% OFF-ROAD / 10% STREET RIDING
Pirelli MT-21 front tire with Dunlop D606 rear tire (90% off-road / 10% street)
One of the more popular tire setups for the Yamaha WR250R is to run a Pirelli MT-21 (size 90/90-21) on the front and a Dunlop D606 (size 120/90-18) on the rear.
The MT-21's work great on the front of the WR250R and will often go 4-5000 miles before they need replaced. The D606's work great on the rear of the WR250R. They are best suited for off road use, but their tread compound is engineered for good highway durability and grip. You should get around 2500-3500 miles out of one. Both tires are DOT approved.

Front Tire: Pirelli MT 21 Rallycross (size 90/90-21)
Rear Tire: Dunlop D606 Dual Sport (size 120/90-18)
REAR TIRE NOTE: The Dunlop D606 is only available in a 120/90-18 size, which is a relatively tall tire, and will make your already-tall-bike sit even higher. If you want to stick with the shorter stock 120/80-18 rear tire size, then the Pirelli MT 21 Rallycross is available in that configuration.
FRONT TIRE NOTE: The Pirelli MT-21 front tire is billed as a 90% off-road / 10% on-road design. If you think you will be riding alot more on the street, you might want to consider a Dunlop D606 Front Tire (size 90/90-21) to match the Dunlop D606 in the rear. They seem to work a little better on the street.
50% OFF-ROAD / 50% STREET RIDING
Michelin Anakee Wild Tires (50% off-road / 50% street)
If you want a 50/50 tire aimed at street and mild off-road riding, we really like the Michelin Anakee Wild Tires. Not only do these tires provide great performance both on and off road, but they have a longer tread life than more off-road oriented tires, which is great for those long adventure rides.

Front Tire: Michelin Anakee Wild (size 90/90-21)
Rear Tire: Michelin Anakee Wild (size 120/80-18 or 130/80-18)
Mitas E-07 Tires (50% off-road / 50% street)
If you want a 50/50 tire aimed at street and mild off-road riding, the Mitas E-07 Tires are another excellent choice. Not only do these tires provide great performance both on pavement and in the dirt, but they have a longer tread life than a dedicated off-road tire, which is great for those using their bikes for commuting or long adventure rides.

Front Tire: Mitas E-07 (size 90/90-21)
Rear Tire: Mitas E-07 (size 120/80-18 or 130/80-18)
20% OFF-ROAD / 80% STREET RIDING
Shinko 705 Tires (20% off-road / 80% street)
If you want an 80% street and 20% trail tire, we really like the Shinko 705. We've used these on a few supermoto's, but they also have sizes that will fit some dual sport 21" front and 18" rear setups. Not only do these tires allow for some mild mannered off-road riding, but the versatile tread pattern offers excellent wet and dry weather adhesion and smooth running on the highway. Tread life is also really good on these.

MORE TIRE OPTIONS
Pirelli MT-43 Trials Tires
Another popular tire setup for the WR250R is to run Pirelli MT-43 Trials Tires front and rear. These DOT legal tires were designed for trials-type riding and competition, but their excellent performance on hard, wet and dry terrain makes them perfect for dual sport use. They provide long-lasting performance, excellent grip on virtually any type of terrain, and are very affordably priced. One side benefit is a tread pattern that has a minimal impact on soil. They can also be run at very low pressures for optimal grip.
