We've had our Yamaha MT-09 SP Project Bike since mid August 2024 and have been using it to test out new parts and accessories. See below for latest updates and a full mod list. You can follow along with our build at our Yamaha MT-09 Build and Update Blog.

CURRENT SETUP:

Our 2024 Yamaha MT-09 SP Project Bike currently has the following mods and accessories...

EXHAUST / PERFORMANCE:

Yamaha MT-09 Akrapovic Carbon Exhaust
Yamaha MT-09 Leo Vince LV Race Exhaust

The stock MT-09 exhaust actually has a pretty nice sound to it, but has to be one of the ugliest stock exhaust systems on any bike. We decided to pull it off and try a few of the aftermarket exhaust systems. First up was the Akrapovic full exhaust (top photo above), which looks great on the bike, was very easy to install, and has a real nice sound to it without being too loud. We put about 400 miles on that exhaust, then decided to switch to the Leo Vince LV Race exhaust (bottom photo above). This one has a very unique look to it, which I really like, and the sound is great. It is slightly quieter than the Akrapovic IMHO.

We've tried two different exhaust systems on the bike so far, first the Akrapovic, and we currently have the Leo Vince on the bike. You can find them at the links below...

  • Akrapovic Racing Line Exhaust

  • Leo Vince LV Race Full Exhaust

With either of the above exhaust systems installed, you want to get the ECU flashed so that the bike runs properly, safely, and takes advantage of the new aftermarket exhaust. We had ours done by Vcyclenut (do a google search) and couldn't be happier... the bike is now a rocket ship! There is NOTHING like a properly tuned CP3 engine, it's one of the best in motorcycling. Very happy with the ECU flash! We also have a Sprint filter installed.

  • ECU Flash by Vcyclenut

  • Sprint P08 Air Filter

    COCKPIT:

One of my first minor complaints with our new MT-09 SP was the stock mirrors. First I didn't care for the look of them, and second visibility was pretty bad, especially with the left side mirror, which has you looking right at your shoulder. We pulled the OEM mirrors off right away and have tried a few of the CRG Mirrors, mounted to the handlebars with our Rhino bar end slider / mirror mounts. We've tried all 3 of the CRG's, including the Blindsight LS 2" mirrors, the Hindsight LS 3" mirrors, and the Arrow mirrors as well. All of them provide much better visibility than the stockers, and from a looks standpoint I think the Arrows look the best with the angular lines of the MT-09, and the small Blindsight LS 2" mirror is probably our second favorite, followed very closely by the Hindsight LS 3". You can't go wrong with any of these mirrors, however, they just make the bike look so much better, and you can actually see out of them! We also replaced the stock clutch and brake levers, with ASV's, which are one of our favorites. They are shorter than the stock levers, plus they give you reach adjustment to fine tune them to your hand size. You can find all of the MT-09 parts mentioned above at the links below...

  • Yamaha MT-09 Bar End Mirror Kit **

  • Domino XM2 Grips (Black/Grey)

  • ASV Clutch/Brake Levers (Black)

** NOTE: These items also available individually...
  • Rhino Bar End Sliders with Mirror Mounts
  • CRG Arrow Mirrors
  • Anodized Mirror Hole Plugs (Black)

    PROTECTION:

One of the first mods we wanted to do on our MT-09 SP was some sort of crash protection, as well as a radiator guard. We've used Evotech Performance products on a few of our project bikes in the past, and it's always top quality, simple to install, and very nice looking. You can find all the MT-09 parts mentioned above at the links below...

  • Evotech Frame Slider Kit **

  • Evotech Radiator Guard **

  • Evotech Axle Slider Kit **

  • Evotech Swingarm Spools **

  • Woodcraft Stator Cover

  • Woodcraft Clutch Cover

** NOTE: Available together in our Yamaha MT-09 Evotech Protection Kit.

    LIGHTING:

On our Yamaha MT-09 project bike, we had initially installed Evotech's Fender Eliminator kit, which we really liked, and thought it improved the overall look of the bike. If you want a fender eliminator with the license plate mounted in the traditional location, the Evotech is the way to go... a real quality piece of kit. We wanted to try the NRC Fender Eliminator Kit next, along with their front LED turn signals, so that's what we currently have on the bike, and so far we really like it. The rear fender eliminator is only available with a tucked license plate location, so it really streamlines the look of the bike's tail section. The front LED turn signals are much much nicer than OEM, since they stick out about 1/2 as far, and their angled design looks nice and aggressive on the bike. We also installed 12oClockLabs Programmable Brake Light Safety Pulser, which is a simple plug-n-play device that will pulse your brake light when you apply your brakes. The pulsing is programmable so you can change it to look the way you want, and I think it's a great safety device to help make you more visible on the road. You can find all the MT-09 parts mentioned above at the links below...

  • NRC Fender Eliminator Kit 2024+ MT-09

  • NRC Front LED Turn Signals 2024+ MT-09

  • 12oClockLabs Running Light Adapters (Universal Model)

  • 12oClockLabs Programmable Brake Light Pulser

    BODY:

We haven't done many aesthetic mods to our project bike yet, but we have done a few. We did recently install an Evotech Fly Screen, just to clean up the look at the front of the bike around the headlight and TFT display. That little fly screen makes the front end look much better IMHO, and it also is much easier to just wipe that off than try to clean the bugs and road grime that seem to get all over the back of the TFT display. You can find all the MT-09 parts mentioned above at the links below...

  • Evotech Fly Screen 2024+ MT-09

  • Evotech Passenger Footpeg Delete Kit 2024+ MT-09

  • Nelson Rigg Commuter Lite Tail Bag

  • Motocomposites Carbon Fiber Front Fender

  • Motocomposites Carbon Fiber Rear Hugger/Chain Guard
