This is one of our favorite exhaust systems for the Yamaha MT-09. Having run Akrapovic exhausts on several of our project bikes over the years, I've always been very pleased with the fit, finish, quality, looks, sound and performance.
Installation: Installation was pretty straightforward. Instructions are included. The only tricky thing about installing exhaust systems on these bikes is the radiator being in the way, so you have to unbolt it and move it a bit to make room, otherwise a very simple install. A small bracket is included, which mounts the muffler to the passenger footpeg. So for this exhaust, you need to still have the right side passenger footpeg assembly installed, unless there is some sort of third party bracket available. So far, Akrapovic does not offer one like they do for some of their systems.
Looks: This system looks really really good on the bike. From the beautiful carbon muffler, to the way they designed the header pipes, it just looks great. A HUGE and noticeable improvement over that terrible looking stock exhaust system.
Sound: This exhaust has a nice deep sound to it, overall very pleased with it. It's a little louder than something like the Leo Vince exhaust, which was the system we tried out just after this Akrapovic. Like with any aftermarket exhaust upgrade on this CP3 engine, it totally transforms the bike, and definitely adds some theater to the whole riding experience.
Performance: When installing a full exhaust like this on the MT-09, we definitely recommend an ECU re-flash. In addition to the exhaust, we also have a Sprint P08 filter installed. This was the first aftermarket exhaust we tried on our project bike, and we rode the bike about 50 miles with the new exhaust and filter, prior to having the ECU flashed, just to see how the bike ran. You could definitely tell the mapping wasn't quite right, plus we got a pretty loud bang on upshifts with the quickshifter on certain gear changes. We sent our ECU out to vcyclenut for one of the flashes he has specifically for this exhaust, and all I can say is that it totally changes the character of the bike. It runs so much better, and you definitely notice an improvement in 2nd gear, which seemed excessively restricted on our bike. And no more odd pops and bangs when shifting or on deceleration.
