 What is the best skid plate available for the KTM 690 Enduro R / KTM 690 SMCR and and Husqvarna 701 ENDURO / SM?  One of our personal favorites is the plastic skid plate from Acerbis. We've been testing this one out on our KTM 690 SMCR Project Bike and so far really like it. Installation was super easy, and as you can tell from the photos, the design of the skid plate is excellent, the way it is formed to fit the exact shape of the engine. It looks really nice on the bike, and also provides excellent coverage, protecting your water pump and engine cases. It also features a rear fin that's designed to protect the linkage of the shock from impacts, mud and sand, and when off-roading it allows you to easily slide over natural obstacles (Whoops, stones, logs) ensuring a smooth ride. The plastic construction will be less prone to noise and vibration compared to a comparable aluminum skid plate.  These are highly recommended for the KTM 690 Enduro R and Husqvarna 701 Enduro models, especially if you are doing a lot of off-road riding. But we also use a skid plate on our KTM 690 SMCR Supermoto, even though that bike never gets ridden off road. We do this for a couple reasons, first off I like the look better when the front of the engine is covered, but additionally it helps protect the engine from road debris kicking up off the front tire, plus it keeps that part of the bike clean from bugs and road debris. It's much easier to wipe the skid plate clean, compared to having to do the same to the front of the engine. Installation was really simple, and it doesn't require any additional hardware for either the Enduro R or SMCR, you just use the hardware included with the skid plate.
