Harness Tech - Autocross Harness FAQ
1. Do I need a harness belt for autocrossing?
Most autocrossers don't realize how important a harness belt is. The factory seats and seat belts offer very little lateral support. The driver involuntarily uses the steering wheel or other stationary objects in the car for support. This results in an interruption of driver concentration, diminished control of the steering wheel, and body fatigue. A quality harness belt holds the driver in a fixed position in the car, thus allowing maximum concentration and feedback through the steering wheel. You will be amazed at the difference it makes!
2. Which harness belts are best suited for autocrossing?
While you can use pretty much any harness system for autocrossing, we recommend a 3 or 4 point harness with 2" webbing. These are sufficient since the main goal of the harness is to keep a driver stationary in the seat during hard cornering and braking.
Our favorite harness belts for autocrossing are the Schroth Rallye 3 and Rally 4. While they are slightly more expensive than other belts, they are the highest quality, and are easier to get in and out of than any other belt we have tried. Click here for more belts we recommend to autocrossers.
