Schroth Rallye 4 for the 98-01 Subaru Impreza
The Schroth Rallye 4 harness belt features asm technology, a 4-point mounting configuration with four individual adjusters, and a quick-release buckle that disconnects tail strap to allow occupants easy access to rear seats when the Rallye 4 harnessbelt is not in use. The dual tail strap is designed to mount to the two stock rear seat lap belt anchor points- the 'D' and 'E' points. Installation takes between 30 minutes and an hour and a half, depending on the installer’s experience.
Review:
The Schroth Rallye 4 is a must for autocrossing. I've autocrossed my Subaru several times without the belt, and the difference is night and day. Without the harness, I'm having to use the steering wheel and center console to brace myself during hard cornering. I even developed a small bruise on my right knee from bracing it against the center console. With the harness installed, this doesn't happen and I'm in much better control of the car as a result. Buy these...they really make a difference.
Installation Tips:
The following installation tips are for the drivers side Rallye 4 harness belt. A passenger side belt will install in much the same way. This installation will allow for the use of the standard factory 3-point seatbelt for street use, and the Schroth harness for autocross use.
- Before attempting installation, thouroughly read the instructions that came with your Schroth harness belts, and refer to them while doing the installation. Have a professional install the harnesses if you unsure of what you are doing.
- Removing the front seat, while not totally necessary, will give you easier access to the rear seat area, where the shoulder belts will be mounted. If you have a power seat or integral air bags, you may want to leave the seat in.
- Once the belts are installed, adjust the shoulder and lap belts appropriately. This will require you to adjust the seat to its racing position, then sit down, put on the belt, and check it for tightness. Always tighten the lap belt first, and once its tight, pull down on shoulder adjusters to tighten them. When properly adjusted, the belts will hold you in comfortably but firmly. Make sure the lap belt is NOT riding up on your stomach. The rear shoulder belt and lap belt can both be adjusted longer/shorter based on your requirements. You may find yourself getting in and out of the belts a few times, to shorten or lengthen the shoulder belts, until you find an adjustment that works. Adjusting the belts usually takes 5-10 minutes.
